About MARC Records
Infobase provides MARC Records for use in your catalog system. MARC stands for Machine Readable Cataloging and is a standard format for bibliographic records. For additional information about the MARC standard, visit: https://www.loc.gov/marc/.
The MARC files provided here utilize the MARC21 UTF-8 character set. At your discretion, MARC records can be converted and edited using the MarcEdit software available at: https://marcedit.reeset.net/.
Below you'll find instructions for creating and downloading MARC record files. For assistance importing the MARC records into your system, or if you aren't sure if MARC records are the best way to add content to your catalog, please contact your catalog's support team.
Most Infobase collections have MARC records:
- All Streaming Video Products (Films On Demand, Access Video On Demand, Classroom Video On Demand, and Learn360)
- Credo Reference and Credo Source
- Infobase Ebooks
- Health Reference Center
- History Center (African American History; American History; American Indian History; Ancient & Medieval History; Modern World History, and World Religions.)
- Science Online
These collections do not offer standard works such as books or videos, so do not offer MARC records:
- Issues and Controversies, Issues and Controversies in History
- The Mailbox Plus
- Polling the Nations
- Today's Science
- InfoLaunch and InfoLaunch Elementary
- World Geography & Culture
- World News Digest
Update frequency: Video platform MARC records are updated nightly, Credo Reference/Source and Database records are updated monthly, and eBooks MARC records are updated quarterly.
Email alerts: Email notifications are sent out when new MARC records become available for your account. For video platforms, an email is sent out once 200 new MARC records are available. If you are not receiving these notifications and would like to, please contact Infobase Support at productsupport@infobase.com.
a la carte purchases: Customers who only have a la carte purchases of eBooks or videos will not have a listing in their Admin for the resource, and therefore be unable to obtain their MARC records as described. As a workaround, please log into your Infobase Admin in another tab of this browser and click the link below. If you have any questions about this process, please reach out to productsupport@infobase.com:

Creating MARC Files
In the Admin Portal (admin login required), look for the MARC Records button under "Infobase Platform" on the "My Resources" page. All of your Infobase resources will be combined in this MARC file.
The record URLs do not include authentication information. Instead, they rely on an account ID to point remote users to the correct information. For more about this, see Linking with your Infobase Account ID.
MARC files can be created and downloaded in a few different ways:
Download New Records
Using the "Download New Records" method is the easiest way to get just the records added since your last download. It will include everything that has been added since the indicated date. For first-time users, pressing this button will create a single file that includes all available records.
- If you see an unexpected large number of new records, this may be due to the platform migration and can be corrected by Converting from Legacy to New Platform Records.
Download All Records
You can also download all available MARC records by clicking on the Download button under "Download All Records."
Download Discontinued Records
You can also download a delete file of all records discontinued since your last download. This will generate a "purge" file with a d in the LDR field, which should remove matching records from most catalogs.
- Again, if you see an unexpected large number of discontinued records, this may be due to the platform migration and can be corrected by Converting from Legacy to New Platform Records.
Create Custom Records
You can also create custom records by clicking on the Create Custom Records button on the right. Complete information can be found in our Custom Records article.
For some products, a "Delete File" checkbox is available in the custom records interface. Please be aware this does NOT show only discontinued records. It will generate purge records for any records that match your criteria; if no criteria are entered, it will generate purge records for all of your titles. For only discontinued records, use the "Download Discontinued Records" option described above.
Previously Downloaded Files
When the batch file is ready it will display in the table below. It will be available for download for 30 days.
- To download the file, click the link associated with file's title.
- The last download date will always display in the status column.
- You can see information about the record, such as description, date added, and title count, in the table columns.
