Citing sources is an important part of academic writing and research. Citations allow you to give proper credit to the creators of the content you use and help others locate the same source materials for further study. Our citation tools make it easy to cite content in the most widely used academic formats.
Formatting Standards:
We offer citations in the following four formatting standards:
- APA
- MLA
- Harvard
- Chicago
Each citation is automatically generated for you and includes all the necessary information to properly cite the content you're using.
How to Copy Citations
Once the citation is generated, you can use the Copy button to easily copy the citation to your clipboard and paste it into your document or reference manager.
Citation Export Options
We also provide options to export your citation directly to the following tools:
- Noodletools
- Refworks
- EndNote
- Zotero
When you click on any of the export tools, a new window will open. If you're not already logged into the tool, you will be prompted to log in before completing the export.
Downloading the RIS File
An RIS file is a standardized format for exchanging citation data between different software tools. It can be used with reference management software to import and organize your citations. If you download the RIS file, you can upload it to compatible programs for managing your references.
When you click the Download RIS File option, the download process will automatically start. You'll have the opportunity to rename the file if needed and then you'll need to click Save to store it on your device.
Changing the Default Citation Format:
If your institution has a preferred citation format, an admin may change the default citation format by logging into the Admin Portal, then navigating to the Infobase Platform placard > Product Settings > Settings.
