Proxy authentication is supported by the Infobase Platform. Please note that once you log in through your proxy, we use a token rather than proxy server access to maintain the connection; you will not see your proxy in the address bar URLs. The permalinks also do not contain the proxy, but instead use an account ID to direct remote users to the correct authentication. For more about this, see Linking with Your Infobase Account ID.
We describe the set-up and configuration for OCLC's EZ Proxy below. Other proxy servers, such as WAM and Muse Proxy, can be used for authentication - contact productsupport@infobase.com for further information.
EZ Proxy How-to
There are just a few steps to setting up EZ Proxy access:
- Provide Infobase support (productsupport@infobase.com) with the proxy prefix and proxy IP. If you're using EZ Proxy v6 or above, please include the IPv6 format IP if available. If you don't have this information, the vendor should be able to provide it.
- Update your proxy configuration file (config.txt) with the recommended complete stanza here. Alternately, you can add the hostline HJ https://access.infobase.com and the directive NeverProxy https://iden5.infobase.com to an existing stanza.
-
Customers with OCLC-hosted EZ Proxies can use the Include file to keep up-to-date with any changes:
IncludeFile databases/infobaselearning.txt
- Add an SSL Certificate to support our secure site. (If you've transitioned to https with other databases, such as ProQuest or Kanopy, you already have an SSL certificate.) Documentation can be found on OCLC's site here. There's also a free SSL certificate option available here. Infobase now enforces the secure version of our site, so you must have the certificate in place to successfully proxy our links.
- Configure your SSL certificate for Infobase. OCLC support (support@oclc.org) is your best resource for the directions on setting this up.
- Test the proxied Infobase link from home or off-network to ensure it's working, and add it to your database page.
-
The correct starting URL format is
https://proxy.yourschool.edu?url=https://access.infobase.com/?aid=ACCOUNTIDHERE
The URL with your account ID can be used with or without the proxy prefix; for more about this, see Linking with Your Infobase Account ID.
- You can also use deeplinks to bring your users to the different product landing pages. For example:
https://proxy.yourschool.edu?url=https://access.infobase.com/avod?aid=ACCOUNTIDHERE
(Access Video on Demand)
-or-
https://proxy.yourschool.edu?url=https://access.infobase.com/fod?aid=ACCOUNTIDHERE
(Films on Demand)
- See a full list of product URL formats here.
-
- Once the configuration is complete and tested, let us know and we'll add the proxy prefix to your Infobase account so that it combines with your citations, MARC records, and third-party resource links [via the Account ID function].
